  1. Dear all at Native Circle!

Along with several other Palestine Justice activists I was present yesterday at the Indigenous People’s Day event in Westlake Center. I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it had grown markedly from former years, not only in the number of attendees but in the number of speakers, especially those who are American Indians. It is so good to have those native voices speaking up for all to hear. May they grow even more powerful as time goes by. We non-natives need to hear the truth of our past, we need to be educated, we need to learn. Congratulations and well done to everyone who made this happen!

Is anyone there aware of a list of speakers, or does anyone know who the speakers yesterday were, especially the Native American speakers? This would help us keep in touch and organize mutually supporting activities in the future.

(Nada Elia, one of our Paletinian sisters, was scheduled to speak yesterday but unfortunately was called back to the Arab Festival before she could do that. There will be a next time, I’m sure.)

    In Solidarity,

      Hi Richard,
I’m actually unsure of the event to which you are referring – if it was in the last few days could it have been the Indigenous Peoples Day/Columbus Day Protest? If so, I’m not aware of the host or a list of speakers. Our Indigenous People’s Day Celebration was in August and is part of the Seattle Center’s Festal programs. I do have a list of speakers/performers from that event.

      • Dear Mr Serpa,

Thank you for your note and your help. The event I attended was on Saturday, October 8, at Westlake Center Park. It had been postponed from September 11 for reasons unknown to me. I received the following alert from Ed Mast of the Palestine Solidarity Committee re the October 8 event:

In the Spirit of Crazy Horse
        The 17th Annual
        INDIGENOUS PEOPLE’S DAY
with support for Leonard Peltier and Political Prisoners World-wide

        Saturday October 8, 2011
Westlake Park between Pike and Pine on 4th Ave.

        RALLY 12-4 pm

        POTLUCK DINNER 5-6 PM
        1423 – 10th Ave. East, Capitol Hill
There are no cooking facilities available. We welcome any additional non-perishable foods. Please be responsible for your own dish.

I have since found out from ANSWER coalition that one of the speakers was Patricia Ann Davis.

I’m sorry I missed the Indigenous Peoples Day event in August at Seattle Center. I must have confused it with the October 8 event when writing in to The Native Circle.

I look forward to learning about more SNC events in the future.
