The Urban American Indian/Alaska Native Education Alliance is sponsoring the 1st Annual Seattle
Clear Sky Native Youth Day’s Celebration from April 20th to April 22nd, 2011. This three day event
will take place at American Indian Heritage Middle College from 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm daily. The
purpose of this event is to build and strengthen cultural and traditional knowledge by educating
Native students and empowering them with tools for successfully navigating through the
many challenges of a society. Another goal for this event is to bridge understanding through
relationship building between urban intertribal youth and local reservation youth.
As a non-profit organization we rely on the strength and dedication of community volunteers
to make these events successful. We are requesting fiscal donations to support the costs of
honorariums, gifts, and travel fees for guest speakers. We currently have the commitment of
numerous local cultural, education and traditionalist volunteering as speakers, lecturers and
presenters. However, for this event to be successful we need the support of our community, so
please consider donating items, gifts, financial assistance and/or personal time.
The Seattle Clear Sky Native Youth participants are excited to host this intertribal cultural
learning opportunity. The youth provided the input on all aspects of organizing this event and
are eager to learn more cultural and traditional teachings. Daily themes for the three day event
includes: Tribal Sovereignty, Social Justice, Cultural/ Traditional Knowledge, and Social Media/
Video Productions and Documentaries.
