CUSTOMER SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE I – FIXED ROUTE
NOTE: This is a part time position but may work up to 40 hours per week, as scheduled.
Under direction, the employee in this position provides timely and accurate bus route, schedule information and other customer services to the public; responds to customer inquiries, performs fare media sales and provides clerical support services to other Agency departments. Essential duties include answering inquiries from customers and staff; directing visitors and those calling with customer comments to correct departments; performing automated or manual trip planning by telephone, e-mail, Relay 711 or in-person by using maps, schedules and other informational tools; recording field trip and ridematch application information and customer comments; selling fare media; taking photographs; updating reference materials and assisting in maintaining customer services records; balancing daily and monthly sales transactions and preparing sales reports; preparing lost and found items for disposal, donation, or extended storage; conducting check-in of lost and found items with Pierce Transit’s courier; contacting customers about their lost and found item(s); transferring ORCA card information for reporting to ORCA; blocking cards and submitting for disposal; attending resource fairs providing community outreach and education; conducting customer information classes and tours of Agency facilities; assisting in training new Customer Services Representatives; operating various office equipment, including but not limited to, telephone system (which includes recorded phone lines), a computer using Windows applications and other computer software programs, printer, copier, Relay 711, fax, calculator and Agency vehicles; participating on cross-departmental teams occasionally, and performing related duties as assigned.
Wage: $16.83 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Pierce County area and roads; customer service techniques; proper English usage.
Ability to: Speak clearly; listen effectively; assimilate information; deal tactfully, patiently, professionally and effectively with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds under frequently stressful circumstances; maintain objectivity, flexibility and creativity in approaching individual work situations; work well with little or no supervision; follow written and oral instructions; read and understand maps, street guides and timetables; accurately perform arithmetic computations and repetitive activities; communicate effectively orally and in writing; demonstrate good work habits including time management, dependability, attendance and the ability to work well in a team environment; exhibit good interpersonal and relationship building skills; pass a job-related examination.
Required: High school graduation or GED equivalent. A minimum of one year experience in a customer service environment involving heavy phone work and/or in-person contact. Desired: Fluency in Spanish.
A valid Washington State Driver’s License may be required. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Must be available Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Must be able to work any shift as assigned.
Must be punctual and be able to maintain regular attendance. Must be able to work at Pierce Transit during weather emergencies. Will be required to pass a background check prior to hire.
