Partners In Health (PIH) is a non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need and to serve as an antidote to despair.
COPE (Community Outreach and Patient Empowerment) is a PIH Sister Organization and a non-profit entity 501c3 based in Gallup, NM. COPE’s vision is to eliminate health disparities and improve the wellbeing of American Indians and Alaska Natives. The organization has an annual budget of $2.7M and a New Mexico-based staff of approximately 30 individuals, including six managers. The three areas of strategic focus for COPE’s work are:
- Improve health care delivery to Native families through community-based outreach by community health workers;
- Increasing access to healthy foods and promoting food sovereignty in tribal communities;
- Strengthening local capacity and partnerships to bring about system-level change.
